Course Overview: 

The Basic Life Support (BLS) course covers the foundations of how to save the life of someone experiencing cardiac arrest in-hospital and out-of-hospital. The Bloodborne Pathogens Training course is recommended for individuals who have on-job risk of exposure to blood and bodily fluids. The Peripheral IV Skills Certification course trains participants on the proper use of traditional peripheral over-the-needle-cannula, also known as “short” intravenous catheters. The course covers the following:

  • Insertion techniques
  • Vein site and catheter selection
  • Aseptic techniques
  • Infection control
  • Common problems and how to fix them

  • Care and maintenance post-insertion

The Peripheral IV Skills Certification course is designed for healthcare professionals like registered nurses and licensed practical nurses who need to regularly insert IV catheters.

BLS Instructor Training

Course Overview and Prerequisites: 

The BLS Instructor Training course is designed for individuals who want to train others in Basic Life Support original and renewal courses. To take this course, participants must hold a current BLS Provider card and align with an American Heart Association (AHA) training center that is accepting new BLS instructors. The instructor course covers:

  • Planning and preparing for a course
  • Instructing courses
  • Keeping instructor status current
  • General information about instructing for American Heart Association courses
  • Conducting written exams, skills testing, and skills practice
  • Discipline-specific information

After completing the Instructor Essentials course, instructors must teach a course while being monitored by an AHA faculty member. The monitored lesson must be done within six (6) months of completing the Instructor Essentials course. The Instructor card is valid for two (2) years.

Who Can Take This Course:

The BLS Instructor course is designed for individuals who want to become certified instructors. This may be nurses, firefighters, or healthcare professionals who enjoy teaching.

Heartsaver eLearning Skills Session

Course Overview: 

The three Heartsaver courses can be completed online with the online manual and eLearning videos. To get the course completion card, participants must prove they have learned the skills. After completing the online learning portion, participants must take the online HCP exam on the American Heart Association (AHA) website. After receiving the certificate for passing the online test, participants must pass a hands-on skills test. The skills test must be completed at a Brooks CPR location. After the skills test, participants will receive their course completion card. 

Who Can Take This Course:

Anyone who took a Heartsaver course online must do a skills session to get certified.

Session Length: 1 Hour

Cost: $48 (does not include cost of AHA online test)
