Getting certified in life support care like CPR helps you be prepared for emergency situations where someone cannot help themselves or licensed medical professionals are not available yet. By taking online courses and getting certified, you will be able to react effectively during emergencies.
Brooks CPR provides multiple courses and certifications in life-saving care, including CPR, first aid, BLS, ACLS, AED, pediatric care, and more. These courses focus on care for specific age groups, covering everything from basic first aid to in-depth healthcare. They are available for new or experienced healthcare providers and laypeople. Whether you need to renew your certification or get certified for the first time, Brooks CPR offers the classes you need. We offer in-person and online courses in Hackensack, NJ; Newark, NJ; and Staten Island, NY.
How It Works
We offer numerous courses that cover basic life-saving skills for the layperson and in-depth care for hospital personnel. Individuals or groups can sign up for classes, which will vary in their course length, cost, and days of the week the course is offered, through our scheduling website. The maximum class capacity is eight people, but the class will be canceled if three or fewer people sign up. You can call or email us with any questions about how to sign up for the right course.
Online Courses
To learn more about each class, go to the location page of the city that is closest to where you live or each course’s individual webpage. On those pages, we list more specific information about what the class covers, who should take the class, the cost of the course, and the location and contact details. Find the class that will teach the skills you wish to learn, make sure it’s covering the topics you need, check if it’s a first-time certification or a renewal class, and then book the class that works best for your schedule.
Our eLearning courses include:
- Heartsaver – covers CPR, AED, and first aid
- BLS – covers basic life support skills
- ACLS – covers advanced cardiac life support
- PALS – covers pediatric advanced life support
You can sign up for individual courses or combinations of multiple courses. Any layperson, such as teachers, security personnel, police officers, firefighters, and daycare providers, can take the Heartsaver course to prepare for emergencies. The BLS, ACLS, and PALS courses are tailored to healthcare providers so they are expansive and detailed. After completing an online course, you must pass the HCP exam online through the American Heart Association (AHA) website if you wish to get certified.
In-Person Skill Test
You can also attend an in-person skills validation session where, upon completion, you will receive a course completion card. This needs to be done after completing the HCP exam. The skill validation session will test all of the information taught in the eLearning course to confirm you can demonstrate your skills successfully. The Heartsaver and BLS skill sessions last one hour, and the ACLS and PALS skill sessions last two hours.
Who Should Learn Life-Saving Skills
Healthcare providers are required to know and demonstrate life support skills to get certified to work at hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities. They must be prepared to handle life-or-death situations as part of their job. If you are a healthcare professional, our courses will cover all of the information you need to complete the class and get certified.
For the layperson, emergencies can occur unexpectedly at any time, and knowing how to react and administer care can make all the difference. People in certain professions may benefit more from our online courses. Police officers, firefighters, teachers and daycare providers, camp counselors, and anyone who works with vulnerable populations should learn life support skills.
Benefits of Online Courses
Flexible
Online courses for CPR certification and other life support skills offer flexibility with time and distance. Taking the course online allows you to access learning materials anywhere you have internet access. You can study the material while on a work break or at night after your children have gone to sleep. The flexibility of online courses is ideal for working individuals, parents, teachers, or anyone will a busy schedule. It is also useful for those who do not live near an in-person training center that covers the skills they want to learn.
Learn at Your Own Pace
People learn more effectively in different ways. Some need quiet time free of distractions to absorb the material well, and others focus better in a classroom setting. An online course allows you to learn the material at your own pace, without worry of slowing down other course takers. It also allows you to choose your study place, whether that’s at home, the library, or a park.
